I find it extremely satisfing that geek humor is strong enough to disarm hate.  I mean what can you say to a trekie protesting that God hates Jedi?

Laura's Washington Trip

The Dentist’s Chair

Sitting in a dentist’s chair last Thursday I decided that the Dentist get pretty close to being my least favorite place to occupy.  And I have good reasons:

1- There is a power tool in your mouth that is vibrating your skull.

2- Unless you are going for a really big procedure, you are concious for the whole thing – and yet you can’t actually see anything that is going on.  Percieved danger is the imagination’s banquet.

3- When they aren’t poking and scaping at your primal nerves, they are trying to drown you or irradiate you.

I guess routine torture is better than painful, infected, rotting teeth.  Still, listening to the gutteral screams of a 10 year old girl in the next stall, I foresee problems in trying to someday explain this concept to my kids.

Passage/Transition Drawing 1

I have started taking an advanced drawing class offer by my company.  About 20 of us meet with a drawing instructor for a couple of hours each Wednesday.  We discuss drawing technique and each others drawings and then we draw (of course).  We were each given a pair of words at the beginning of the class and all of our drawings so far have been based off these words.  My words are passage and transition.  For my first series of drawings I focused on a man hunting a deer focusing on the duration of the hunt and the contrast of the landscape/sky to highlight my words.  Here are the first two versions:

IF - Giant

While I normally would refrain from posting a sketch that I had previously submitted, I am busy this week with another drawing project (plus my “clumsy” submission works really well).  I’ll even throw in another previous sketch that I did on three consecutive pages in my moleskin.  Maybe I’ll have time later this week to make an original sketch.
